Wait...Don't Take the Bait

Slowing down your pace in life with offense

Wait...Don't Take the Bait

I just finished reading John Comer’s book “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” and it was phenomenal. I recommend everyone to go get it and truly take your time inhaling all of the good words of wisdom that Mr. Comer has to offer. Overall, he explains how life has gone completely too fast and we need to slow down and enjoy the here and now. This is something I struggle with (and he admits he still does too) but I think it can be accomplished by practicing acts of slowing down daily. For example, one way to do this (at least for me) is to get in the slow lane and do the posted speed limit. Just try it for a week! It really does help. I can pray more in the car in addition to praying for others on the road. I mean, isn’t the overall goal in life to enjoy all the fruits of GOD’s labor? How can we do that if we are always running? When is the last time you just sat by an ocean watching the waves crashing over one another and fervently listening to the sounds they make.
When is the last time you enjoyed watching a beautiful rainbow cross the sky?
When is the last time you got down on the floor and wrestled with your kids?
When is the last time you sat down at dinner with your loved ones without an electronic device in sight?
Mind you, these are rhetorical questions but questions you should be thinking about.
The second book I want to recommend is John Bevere’s “The Bait of Satan.” I’m only in Chapter 5 but I am so in love with the perspective he paints. He has these great declarations after each chapter (which I will be selecting one from each and posting (maybe even framing) each one at work and at home. Overall, he gets you to truly think about the why behind your offense and should you really be carrying the offense in the first place. If we truly dig deep and consider the reason behind why discord is being sown into our families and at our workplaces we would realize that the enemy (yes, Satan) only does it to distract and deter us from our purpose in life.
Now look, I know many of you reading this may have some serious deep-rooted offenses (sexual abuse, mental and emotional abuse from a loved one) and those offenses I know will take time to be uprooted. Regardless of the offense, I desire for everyone to be free from them so you can be happy and successful in your future endeavors (not just career, but your relationships with others as well).
Please know I go to counseling and have a monthly meet up group where we share common goals, dreams, and aspirations and one of my goals and to rid myself of offense. It’s not healthy for me to have and causes unnecessary stress and illness in my physical body. And I don’t want that around me 24/7/ I hope you don’t either. So if, I can encourage you to do anything is to read those great books and truly put their recommendations into practice.
